At Synergy the app delivery industry event in Las Vegas this week Citrix announced the formal release of the Citrix Receiver for iPhone 1.0, now available in the App Store. The new app allows instant access to company resources behind the firewall including apps, documents, and internal web sites. Even web apps that require Flash or Java will work when delivered to the iPhone through Citrix XenApp servers. The actual data never leaves the company servers but Citrix utilizes its HDX technology to remote the application to the iPhone in a way that makes the app appear like its running locally. Apps like Microsoft Office, SAP, Oracle, and thousands of others can now be delivered unmodified to the iPhone. Secure connections are provided by Citrix Access Gateway support or the iPhone built-in VPN. RSA 2 Factor authentication is also supported with this release.
In addition the company has released a feature called Doc Finder that allows users to find, edit and send any document stored on company file servers. The app looks and feels like a native iPhone app yet again it’s actually running on a company XenApp server.
Need to see it and try it for yourself ? Download the free app in the App Store and connect to the Citrix Cloud demo system ( www.citrixcloud.net ) for a trial.
