"Bachelorette 3's" Jen Schefft Stands Up for Single Women on Glamour.com's "See Alyssa Date" Blog
Schefft -- Who Made Reality Show History When She Rejected Marriage Proposals From Her Final Two Suitors -- Counsels Single Wome
Oct. 27, 2006 02:59 PM

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/27/06 -- Jen Schefft, the former star of "The Bachelorette" who famously rejected two marriage proposals, is a guest-blogger today on Glamour.com's "See Alyssa Date" at Glamour.com/Alyssa. Alyssa Shelasky, who blogs about her love life and asks readers to vote on her next move, provided a forum for her friend Schefft to unload about her reality TV travails and offer insights on love, dating and the importance of waiting for the right guy. As the title of Schefft's upcoming book puts it, "Better Single Than Sorry."

"After turning down proposals from two men on 'The Bachelorette,' I had to deal with a ton of backlash," confesses Schefft, who met Alyssa several years ago when Alyssa was a reporter at US Weekly. "Star magazine labeled me a 'spinster'...some people sent letters to my parents' house telling them I was never going to find anyone who could possibly make me happy. Once, a woman came up to me in a mall and suggested I seek professional help. All these women were so angry at me...as if I'd ruined these guy's lives.

"The best thing I did for them was turn them down," adds Schefft. "After these shows are over, women throw themselves at these guys -- they practically become rock stars. Trust me, they were not pining over me!"

"Jen was really gutsy to say what she did on my blog," said Alyssa Shelasky. "I know just how challenging it can be to go public with your love life, but seeking a partner on a reality TV show definitely has its perils. I think her message is so important -- don't settle for someone who's not right for you. And boy, does she have some crazy dating stories!"

While readers obviously know where Schefft stands, she asks for their opinion on the following question on today's "See Alyssa Date" blog: "Is it better to be alone than to be with a guy who's not right for you?" Readers are encouraged to cast their vote at Glamour.com/Alyssa.
