QTech's Sunil Vemuri Leads O'Reilly Emerging Telephony Conference Workshop on Voice Digitization and Search

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and HYDERABAD, India, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- QTech Inc. (http://www.qtechinc.com/), a provider of innovative voice solutions for memory archival and retrieval, today announced its Chief Product Officer, Sunil Vemuri, will lead a workshop on voice digitization and search at the upcoming O'Reilly Emerging Telephony Conference (http://conferences.oreillynet.com/etel2007), to be held in Burlingame, Calif. from February 27 through March 1, 2007. Vemuri's workshop details follow:

Title: Searching Calls: Indexing, Searching, and Retrieving Recorded Speech Date: Tuesday, February 27 Time: 10:30 am - 12:00 pm Location: Salon F

"The business and cultural impact of being able to 'google' speech will be huge," said Surj Patel, conference chair and industry expert. "In the emerging telephony world we can see that it is already possible to store a lifetime of recorded phone conversations on a moderate-sized hard drive. Sunil is one of the few technologists focused on improving people's lives with this type of technology. We are proud to have Sunil and QTech speak at our conference."

From call centers to corporate phone systems, calls can be recorded with little effort, leading to a huge archive of bits that contain information encoded as voice patterns. What if you could employ searching mechanisms similar to those found on the Web? The usefulness of that data suddenly increases as the accessibility to the sought-after data increases.

In this session, Sunil Vemuri reviews his landmark Ph.D. research from MIT and discusses accessible, open-source tools that attendees can take away to implement and explore further. Just imagine the potential of being able to index, search, and cross-link your phone calls to other business data.

Sunil Vemuri is co-founder and Chief Product Officer at QTech, Inc., where he leads product development and strategy for QTech's software-based memory aids. This includes capturing and archiving recorded speech and converting these into memory triggers and reminders.

Prior to QTech, and as part of his dissertation work at MIT, Vemuri built and evaluated a personal long-term memory aid that captured everyday conversations and studied how conversation archives can help remedy common memory problems. Vemuri also worked at France Telecom and at Apple's Advanced Technology Group where he researched, built, and deployed several systems that leveraged information retrieval technologies as part of learning and organizational memory.

QTech's flagship product reQall(TM), acts as your virtual personal assistant by enabling you to easily record and conveniently retrieve your reminders and notes based on your contextual preferences. reQall is patent- pending software technology that uses a combination of voice interface and speech-recognition technology to record, log and retrieve your tasks, meetings and voice notes. The service can be used via any phone and does not require any software downloads. Instead, a user accesses the reQall service by calling a toll-free number.

A limited beta version of reQall is available in North America.

reQall(TM) was one of the products selected as a DEMOgod(TM) at the DEMO 07 conference in Palm Desert, Calif. Each year, the prestigious DEMOgod award is presented to select companies that show their ability to clearly articulate the significance of their debuting technology despite the pressures of a jaded audience, a make-or-break level of expectation, and a six-minute count down clock. This year, only 10 of 68 DEMO 07 participants received the award.
