ARLINGTON, Va., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- System Planning Corporation (SPC) today announced that distinguished scientist and researcher, Dr. Sheldon Z. Meth, will join the company as Chief Technology Officer.

Dr. Meth comes to SPC from duties as a program manager in the Tactical Technology Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) where he was responsible for the development of new generations of advanced strategic and tactical warfare and military space technologies to enhance U.S. defense capabilities against emerging national security challenges.

The announcement represents SPC's continuing commitment to providing world-class technology, system engineering and support services to government and industry clients.

"Sheldon Meth brings to SPC a wealth of experience in conceiving, developing and delivering advanced high-impact military and intelligence prototype systems," said Roy Smith, SPC's Executive Vice President for Technical Operations. "He will help SPC develop and bring to the marketplace the best advanced technology ideas and products."

At DARPA's Tactical Technology Office, Meth's program responsibilities included research and development in advanced directed and kinetic energy weapon technology, femtosecond ultrashort pulse laser technology, counterterrorism, counter MANPADS, mitigation of enhanced particle belts, and classified military space programs, which enable the U.S. military to incorporate maturing technology.

Prior to his DARPA experience, Meth held chief scientist positions at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) for nearly 15 years.

Dr. Meth earned his undergraduate and advanced degrees in Physics at Columbia University in New York City. He is a senior member of both the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and also is affiliated with the Directed Energy Professional Society, the American Physical Society, the Association of Old Crows, the National Defense Industrial Association, the Optical Society of America, and Sigma Xi.
