The Flaming Lips Honored in Their Hometown Oklahoma City
Halloween Spectacle Confirmed and More Lips Music in the Movies and on TV
Oct. 23, 2007 12:00 PM
BURBANK, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/23/07 -- As previously reported, THE FLAMING LIPS have
been celebrated in their hometown of Oklahoma City by the City Council who
has named a street in the band's honor. Flaming Lips Alley is located in
the trendy Bricktown district near downtown Oklahoma City. The official
dedication ceremony of Flaming Lips Alley will take place on Thursday,
October 25th, beginning at 11:30am. The Mayor of Oklahoma City, Mick
Cornett, will present the official street sign to the band followed by a
ribbon-cutting ceremony. However, this will not be your average, quiet
garden variety City Hall affair. This will be a Flaming Lips happening in
the grand tradition. It may be loud, it could get messy, but it will be
memorable. Expect this event to be more like a Lips live show complete
with dancing Santas, aliens, The Flaming Lips crew dressed in their red
jumpsuits, far too many balloons, tons of confetti shot from canons and the
massive Lips concert video screen in full Floydian effects.
Two days later, Oklahoma City will brace itself for the inaugural Ghouls
Gone Wild Halloween Parade to celebrate creativity and artistry in
Oklahoma. Naturally, Wayne Coyne has been appointed Grand Marshall for the
parade, which will take place on Saturday, October 27th at 7:00pm. The
Flaming Lips will appear at the finishing point of the parade. Floats,
festive cars and walking groups will be part of the Autumnal ritual but The
Lips still need your help. They are looking for 1000 volunteers to help
make the parade a symbolic, supernatural procession which they will call
"The March Of 1000 Flaming Skeletons 2007."
If you would like more information and are brave enough to participate,
you'll need to reserve your space immediately by RSVPing to:
deathmarchreservation@hellfireltd.com.
Participants must be over 18 years of age and be in Oklahoma City on
Friday, October 26th. There is $25 fee to join in but you will get to keep
your costume and (hopefully extinguished) torch, plus you will receive an
exclusive T-shirt designed especially for the event and available only to
participants. Act now, ghouls are standing by.
In other Lips-related news, music by The Flaming Lips continues to be heard
at the movies and on TV. The new Range Rover commercial features the
perennial favorite "Do You Realize??," from their Grammy-winning,
Gold-certified album, "YOSHIMI BATTLES THE PINK ROBOTS." The spot will
continue to run for the next twelve months. You can also hear The Lips in
the new Ford Sync Technology commercial, which features the track, "Pompeii
Am Gotterdammerung," from the current Lips album, "AT WAR WITH THE
MYSTICS."
Also, The Flaming Lips have recorded a new song, "Love The World You Find,"
which appears in the movie and on the soundtrack for "Mr. Magorium's Wonder
Emporium." The movie, directed by Zach Helm and starring Natalie Portman,
Dustin Hoffman and Jason Bateman, will be released by 20th Century Fox on
November 16th. The original soundtrack will be released on November 13th,
on the Varese Sarabande label.
