Enuresis Treatment Center Makes Summer Camp a Reality for Bedwetters
December Is 'Choose A Summer Camp Month': Bedwetting Children Apprehensive About Overnight Stays

By: PR Newswire
Dec. 19, 2007 11:58 AM

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- December is "Choose A Summer Camp Month." During December, parents of the 11 million annual summer camp attendees get a jump-start on selecting a summer camp. But what if your child suffers from Enuresis?

Enuresis, more commonly known as bedwetting, is actually caused by deep sleep. According to Barbara Moore, who founded the Enuresis Treatment Center (ETC) after searching the globe for a treatment to cure her daughter's bedwetting, "99% of our bedwetting cases stem from the root cause: An inherited deep-sleep disorder. The brain sleeps so deeply that when signaled by the bladder that it's full, the brain cannot respond."

Camp is known for building confidence, teaching new skills, and forging friendships. What most people don't think about is how frightening it could be for a child with enuresis; a child who wants to go, but is too afraid to face fellow campers' ridicule when they find out he or she is a bedwetter.

"A bedwetter's greatest fear is being 'discovered,' which often causes them to withdrawal or harbor a secret to avoid being teased or humiliated. They'll even deliberately avoid participating in exciting childhood activities such as camp or sleepovers with friends. Ultimately, the longer bedwetting goes untreated, the greater the potential for psychological and emotional trauma," confirms Dr. Lyle Danuloff, clinical psychologist and ETC's research director.

There is hope for more than 20 million people in the U.S. and millions more worldwide who suffer from enuresis. For 33 years, the Farmington Hills, Michigan-headquartered Enuresis Treatment Center has successfully treated people from around the world who thought there was no hope for ending their bedwetting.

Summer camp can be something to look forward to for a youngster, and since the treatment program takes an average of six months to complete, December is the perfect time to start treatment in preparation for a peaceful stay away from home.
