Sony Ericsson announced it has chosen Esmertec’s Jbed Java Multitasking Virtual Machine which will enable the users to access Java-enabled content on the Ericsson’s new multimedia XPERIA mobile phone range.
Sony Ericsson is expected to come up with new handset ‘XPERIA X1’ in the second half of 2008 equipped with Esmertec’s java software. The arc-slider phone incorporates “panel” interface designed for fingertip navigation and includes other features like 800x480 pixel touch screen, wide-pitch keyboard and Web 2.0 communication, said the company.
“Esmertec has demonstrated its capabilities in delivering advanced mobile Java technology and to fulfill the “high requirements” when supporting the existing Java Platform strategy. Therefore, the smooth integration of Jbed with our XPERIA X1 makes Esmertec a key development partner to realize some of the X1 promises,” said Ib Green, head of software at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications.
