Going to Canada? Go to Jail! Judge Throws Detroit Mayor Behind Bars After Trip across the Snow-Packed Curtain.

Judge Ronald Giles ordered Kilpatrick to jail Thursday, a decision the judge said he would have made for any [...]

Twitterfone Releases Full Audio Interface For Twitter
Twitterfone launched in May to let Twitter users post new messages by calling in to a phone number and speaking out what they want to say. The service then converts the message to text and posts it to your Twitter account along with a link to the audio file. Here’s a test message I created at the launch. The service is a great way to leave a quick Twitter message when you’re away from your computer and only have access to a phone - the service offers local number in 19 countries and

How to make the debates interactive
Jose Antonio Vargas at the Washington Post wonders how we could make the upcoming presidential debates interactive, given that the teaming with MySpace is disappointing. If given a choice between having more YouTube snowmen asking questions or hearing McCain and Obama talk with one another for an hour with no moderator and no questions, I would completely go for the YouTubeless version. But, since that’s not going to happen except in “West Wing” reruns, I think the best we can

What are your biggest issues, bugs and annoyances with Adobe AIR? I am specifically looking for input on both developers bugs, and end user bugs. I am not looking for input on features you would like added (Ill do that in another post). We already have a pretty good idea of the main issues (based on the forums, bug reports, blogs, testing and twitter), but your comments here will be another useful data point. As usual, you can always submit the issues directly to the AIR team here. So, post your

Is the Iphone 3g all it is cranked up to be ?
So I finally got my hands on an iPhone 3G but am currently still favouring my iPhone 2.5G - why ? - The signal seems better- 3G signal is patchy at best and forget receiving calls when you have 3G on - horrible...- The battery life is **much** better on the original iPhone than on the 3G iPhone- All my accessories such as Power Monkey fit the original iPhone but not the new 3g iPhone as Apple in their wisdom changed the connector.- GPS is slow and actually I find that the triangulation usin

An anthropological introduction to YouTube
Michael Wesch is one of my personal heroes. Beginning with “The Machine Is Us/Ing Us,” he’s brought a fresh, thoughtful perspective to the social media that are (re)shaping our lives. His “A Vision of Students Today” is the strongest critique of the educational system you’ll ever see in under 5 minutes. I had the fortune of meeting Michael when he spoke at IDEA 2007. He’s a warm, smart, passionate guy, and was readily able to contribute to the discussion

Overcoming the “If Onlies” of Application Development
Forrester's Carey Schwaber recently wrote a nice post on the typical obstacles that application developers face, The "If Onlies" of App Dev. For example, if only “requirements were complete” or “there were enough time to test at the end of the life cycle" or "we weren’t constrained by legacy" among others.  Using a transportation metaphor, Carey then suggests that changing the vehicle through approaches such as SOA and Agile processes can negate the problems

Intelligent Business Process Platform?
Well here’s an interesting post from someone at PWC consulting. http://www.pwc.com/extweb/home.nsf/docid/FB2EF3AC6E351ECC8525746B00676021 The way he’s presenting it, he appears to have seen to beginnings of an IT nirvana by linking business intelligence, rules and process management together to create a whole new “intelligent business process platform”, although it takes a “heroic effort” - no doubt through extensive services. He also says that “enterpri

Follow up to ‘missing braces in If statements’
Earlier this week on Javalobby, I posted an extract from our monthly newsletter regarding our analysis of the ‘missing braces in If Statement’ rule firing and the potential bug involved. If you omit braces and use Static Analysis tools it is a problem actually finding these bugs. Why? Because you probably have the rule turned off! Having any tool tell you of violations in your code purely due to a stylistic preference will result in thousands of false positives and eventually demotivate the

iPhone 2.0: most successful failure to date
The new iPhone 3G and the iPhone 2.0 software update can best be described as the most successful failure I can remember. Apple has sold an astounding number of phones and applications, and yet is failing in so many different ways: MobileMe: A terribly bungled deployment that is still suffering through issues of data integrity and push between the desktop and the iPhone is not what users expect. Lines and availability: Lines are long every day that phones are available, as a result of the terr
