YouNoodle In The News
The local ABC affiliate dropped by YouNoodle’s offices in San Francisco to get an idea of how useful their new startups valuation predictor is. ABC’s Sue Thompson interviewed CEO Bob Goodson on how the service works, and I dropped in for a cameo and a dose of healthy skepticism. We first covered YouNoodle in February way before it launched. It entered public beta last week, and now anyone can enter their startup information and see how the service scores it from 1-1,000 along with a

Summer 2008 road trip
Good morning everybody! This is Dave coming to you from Salt Lake City, UT. I'm on my Summer 2008 road trip. Started yesterday at 4AM, and got me into SLC at about 4PM. Stops include Laramie, WY; Boulder CO and on to Denver on Sunday for the Democratic National Convention. Then four days of watching, listening, talking, and thinking and then back on the road to do it all again! I tried to set up a LAN in my car, to no avail. There isn't much Sprint EVDO on the road between Reno and Salt Lake.

Candidates’ church chat erodes U.S. principles. It was an Inquisition
Candidates’ church chat erodes U.S. principles — chicagotribune.com — Here’s another good essay. This time about the idiotic grilling by a preacher of the two candidates in a large public forum. It was disgusting exercise in pandering. Both candidates now holier than thou. At the risk of heresy, let it be said that setting up the [...]

CEP vs. BRE - A TIBCO TTL (Top Ten List)
My colleague, Paul, got lots of… let’s call it, “feedback” regarding his post on the impending demise of the standalone Business Rule Engine (BRE) Market. It seems there are lots of folks out there who feel quite passionate about the subject, so I thought I would continue, albeit from a different angle and relate it back to the CEP and BusinessEvents for comparison. So… taking my cue from David Letterman and with a tip o’ the hat to Paul, here are the: Top

Are Mashups the 'Agile' Part of Web 2.0?
I've been into computers since I was 4 years old. I went to an esteemed (so they tell me) computer science school, or at least that's what they tell me. I've worked for every kind of software shop: the Big 6 (now 4) consultancies, a couple of startups, and even 'the Big O' (yes, Oracle). So I thought I was familiar with most techniques, theories and approaches to software development. Well, it seems I missed one.About 8 weeks ago Deepak Alur, JackBe's ever-vigilant VP of Development, sent me

Bruce’s Loo
Yesterday was the final day of UX Week 2008, and our final speaker was Bruce Sterling. Though I’d heard of Bruce during the rise of cyberpunk, I was never all that aware of him until I attended South by Southwest Interactive in 1999. He was a legendary presence at the event, both providing the final thoughts to the attendees, and hosting a rocking party at his house. I had the fortune of Bruce speaking at another event of mine, IDEA 2006, where he did a remarkable job of summarizing the pr

More on Cloud Computing from Dion Hinchcliffe
Dion Hinchcliffe recently provide a comprehensive overview of the status of cloud computing for the enterprise in his post, Enterprise cloud computing gathers steam. It is a good article for spinning your knowledge up on what this trend means today. However, the groundwork for their eventual transformation and dow

Nature rules over robotics: Aibo toy-bone repurposed by puppy
Today our puppy discovered the pink toy-bone that originally came with the third generation of the Sony Aibo robotic dog: Sadly, the Aibo was canceled by Soiny in March 2006, but Fenway, our puppy, took possession and repurposed the pink Aibo toy-bone as a new chew-toy. It should be noted that the pink bone didn't last long. It's been proved once again: nature rules over robotics...
