Zodiac Killer Unmasked -Man Finds Old Costume in Attic, Claims Stepfather was Notorious Murderer
The Zodiac Killer attacked at least eight people, terrorizing the Bay Area and taunting police in the 60’s and 70’s. Thursday, the FBI confirmed to CBS13 they are now running laboratory tests on some items that may link a suspect to the killer. The evidence was given to the FBI by a Pollock Pines man who [...]

Welcome, Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin seems to be an upstanding citizen. A model citizen, even. She’s worked hard, she’s fought some entrenched interests, she’s taken the initiative, she’s maintained her values…all while raising what seems to be a fine family. Welcome to the national stage. I only put in the weasel “seems” word because I know so little about her. So: She also seems to be the least qualified vice presidential candidate in modern history. Her lack of preparation to

MySpace Cofounder Tom Anderson Was A Real Life “WarGames” Hacker in 1980s
Late last year we discovered that MySpace cofounder Tom Anderson, arguably the most popular individual on the Internet with 240+ million MySpace friends (he is added by default to every MySpace account) was actually 37 years old, not the 32 that he continues to claim on his MySpace page. Now we’ve learned a much more colorful part of Anderson’s history: In 1985, when he was fourteen and in high school in Escondido, California, Anderson was subject to one of the largest FBI raids in

Initial thoughts on the Palin nomination
1. It certainly was creative and thought-stimulating. 2. However... it shows McCain thought he was losing to Obama and needed to do something bold that would stir things up. And he certainly did that. 3. However... no matter how well they vetted her, even if nothing terrible shows up, she has no experience in the world, and virtually no experience in the United States. What does she know about American cities? Our industries and businesses? Economic issues? Balance of trade? The military? Katri

Data Binding with FXG in Flex 4
One of the cool things about FXG is that it works with Flex data-binding just as your would expect it to. Below is a simple example (which requires Flash Player 10 RC), followed the code, that shows data-binding with FXG and Flex 4: As you can see, there are still some bugs in the rendering, but that is to be expected as these are very early Flex 4 builds. Mashups in Action: A Better Way to Trade
In past 'Mashups in Action' blog we have described mashups used in intelligence analysis, medical research, and most recently a dual-purpose community-building/data-sharing effort for a scientific community. So mashups can help make better spies, better doctors and better scientists. But other than the occasional flu shot, I don't expect most of us have much exposure to these professions.Today's Mashup In Action story is about trading, a profession you have better odds of encountering in yo

StackOverflow Podcast #19
This week's StackOverflow Podcast is up: episode 19. Jeff and I spent some time talking about the home page for StackOverflow. What goes there? What does it mean to vote on a question? We also talked about Aaron Swartz's article on How to Launch Software. Big-bang launches can be disasters (viz.: cuil); quiet, gentle launches without announcements where you slowly build can work a lot better (viz.: Gmail). Will StackOverflow's launch overwhelm our servers and underwhelm our audience? Not

Intermediating ESBs for SOA: The Final Webinar?
OK, sorry to mix metaphors, but it is time to put this can of worms to bed (???). If you've been following this blog you couldn't help but notice the many posts on the apparent ESB vs. SOA controversy. All of this started with an innocent little interview John did for SearchSOA - where the topic of Intermediating multiple ESBs came up. This article created a tornado of posts from some heavy hitters on SOA topics over the last month. Given all of that, we decided to have our own little webinar o

Early Draft OSGi V4.2 Docs Available
As of this week you can download an early release draft document containing 11 design documents we've been working on for the past year or so as the result of the OSGi enterprise initiative. This is important because according to OSGi Alliance rules, only members are allowed access to working drafts of documents. This is the first time we've released any of these drafts publicly. As a board member and EEG co-chair, I'm very pleased to see this happen because (a) I often get asked about what's

I'm very excited to announce that we've launched a new low-cost version of our award-winning XML Editor today: the XMLSpy Standard Edition is an entry-level XML Editor that packs some of the most frequently-used features of the higher-level editions into a product that is ideally suited for basic XML editing tasks, such as XML configuration file changes, twiddling with RSS feeds, viewing XML output from applications, writing small XSLT stylesheets, and for learning XML. TV you gotta watch: Slings and Arrows
I know I’m quite late to this, but I also know this show is remarkably obscure, and was released on DVD only towards the end of last year, I think. Slings and Arrows depicts the trials and tribulations of the New Burbage Theater company as it handles strange times on the stage. It’s definitely not an obvious ratings winner — it’s Canadian, erudite, and rewards a knowledge of The Bard that I’m sure I lack. But it’s remarkably good television (and I have Tim Go

CEP vs. BRE - A TIBCO TTL (Top Ten List)
My colleague, Paul, got lots of… let’s call it, “feedback” regarding his post on the impending demise of the standalone Business Rule Engine (BRE) Market. It seems there are lots of folks out there who feel quite passionate about the subject, so I thought I would continue, albeit from a different angle and relate it back to the CEP and BusinessEvents for comparison. So… taking my cue from David Letterman and with a tip o’ the hat to Paul, here are the: Top

Twitter kills inbound SMS to UK.....
I received an email in my Inbox today to say that Twitter had killed off inbound SMS updates to the UK.The whole raison d’etre for my subscribing to and using Twitter was to get real-time updates. If I have to login to a Twitter app then what’s the point ? It’s no better, and actually worse than reading RSS. The guys at Twitter twitter on about it being costly, yada yada yada. Well they knew this when they started the service. The challenge for their exec team was to
